Description: The Sicilian Orange PGI has a globose or obovate shape (ovoid); the color of the peel can vary: neutral orange, with colored parts of a garnet red more or less intense, with a smooth surface while the pulp is orange with irregular red mottles (variety Tarocco and Sanguinello), or red-vinous (variety Moro). The fruit is rich in vitamins, polyphenols (flavonoids), folic acid and beneficial substances useful for regulating digestive and metabolic functions, as well as preventing infections and cellular aging, thanks to the considerable amounts of antioxidants.
Our Recommendation: The Sicilian orange must be kept in a cool and dry place. It is excellent consumed fresh, eaten in wedges, squeezed, peeled "live", that is eliminating with a small knife both the white part close to the rind and the small skin separating the various segments. It can also be used in the preparation of jams, salads, sauces and liqueurs. With the peel you can prepare candied fruit and desserts. In the kitchen it is used in combination with sweet and savory dishes.
